As fans we can only respect and support them all.

i dont know the future of fall out boy. its embarrassing to say one thing and then have the future dictate another. as far as i know fall out boy is on break. (no one wants to say the “h” word). as much as i dont have a solo project, i also cant predict that id ever play in fall out boy again. not due to personal relationships as much as a band we grew apart. in this statement id like to include there is the possibility that fob will play again with out me or i will be a part of it when everyone is on the same page. it is no ones fault and there is no animosity about the decision. i felt as fans you deserve to know. there is no singular reason for this. the side projects or bands are supported by all members of the band. i am the single biggest fan of fob and if this is our legacy than so be it. i am proud of it.

Looks like cfobmania got thanked in the Fall Out Boy greatest hits album! Thanks to everyone who has emailed with clues, pictures, news, comments, or has been there to share all the shenanigans we have all been apart of in the past year or so. This blog wouldn’t be anything without any of you. You’re all as much as part of this as I am, so congrats to you!

Of course thanks to @Princessp1193 for giving me the heads up about it and of course our wonderful friends over at ICH for posting scans of the booklet.

In The Prestige the key is unlocked using a transposition cipher which this postcard could turn out to be in it’s entirety?

How many of you have seen this movie? I absolutely loved it, but it didn’t even occur to me when I was reading over the blogspot. But with this, I’m wondering if the whole thing has to do with the explanation of a magic trick:

There’s also instructions to Twitter with the tag #abracadabra if you receive something. And apparently we should be watching that tag as well, might be a password or something involved.

Remember http://damoncarltonandapolarbear.com? If you’re not familiar it’s a poster collaboration project for LOST featuring tons of various designers and artists. Well the picture below links to the picture above. There’s also a paragraph at the top of the page which you can see below.

So, these are “hints.” Some will lead to physical places, some just take you to another website. But the end result, a.k.a. the coolest part of the fun, can be achieved just by s taying in your house. No need to stand up, get dressed and start flailing your arms to your waiting car, because everyone will have a chance to get to the end result, as long a s you’re online and stay tuned to this website. We’ll give you everything you need to know… and soon.

Looks like FOB is doing something tomorrow at the show regarding the show LOST. More viral marketing perhaps? Or maybe just another poster? LOST is vastly known for it’s elaborate online viral presence and extensive interactive worlds. Maybe they will be channeling even more shenanigans perhaps?

Shenanigans Update

As speculated before the shenanigans the happened this past week were in fact revolving around Mr. Gabe Saporta and The Academy Is. Looks like someone is auctioning off one of Gabe’s Overnight Sensation t-shirts on eBay and Saporta tweeted asking people NOT to bid. But we all know that isn’t going to happen. And of course welc0metothenewhate.com was updated with the picture above and another sign-up form that was revealed to be giving out to the “First 100 people that signed up will receive a signed and numbered The Academy Is… lyric lithograph.” Also upon clicking the image you can listen to, what was also speculated, TAI’s new song “Sputter” with Andrew McMahon of Jack’s Mannequin. Of course the letter are the lyrics to this song too.

Thanks to everyone who sent in info and ICH for being awesome. Even if these shenanigans were not FOB focused I had fun. Nothing will ever top CFOB though.

Looks like SupJustin is confirming that Overnight Sensation is in fact Gabe’s clothing line (as we all speculated) however Justin brings to light that it’s a collaboration with Glamour Kills. Interesting. Now someone send me a shirt! Yes, Glamour Kills. I am talking to you. :)

The blurred out letters spell out Welcome To The New Hate in the second one. No wonder Pete said in this tweet “taking apart the words in the letter. one single letter at a time.”

Letter from the doc

The overnight sensation continues! Mark from GK updated his Twitter and if you look closely all those people are wearing t-shirts that say Overnight Sensation. Thanks to Chamie for letting us know. A few comments by canadiankracka on ICH also mentions that when they were on Gabe’s party bus they were told to wear the shirts and that it was Gabe’s new clothing line. SO that’s one possibility.

Also included above is the letter that is currently up at theovernightsensation.com which is what William Beckett (WB which you can see at the bottom of the letter) was referring to when he said he was the doctor. What is most intriguing is the blurred out words. Why blur them out? In addition, one of the ICHers has dug deeper and found that indeed Crush purchased that domain and Gabe is the main contact. You can see it yourself here too since it’s Public information. However, it should be noted that the domain was acquired May 4th, 2009.

Now people are speculating since there have been numerous references to Midtown that they might reunite, but being a long-time and huge Midtown fan myself I really don’t see that happening anytime soon. Don’t get me wrong, I am totally for it but it seems unlikely. What I would like to point out is remember this picture?

Could it be a new song perhaps? A new mixtape? A clothing line? Another band that Gabe has signed? Or just a demonstration of their power in making things an overnight sensation?! What we do know is that Pete, Gabe, Beckett and Crush are in on the shenanigans. I also don’t think the recent Ashbury shenanigans are connected anymore but seems like they are using that momentum as a platform to launch their own. Regardless, let’s discuss!

If you head to the new site we had been sent to theovernightsensation.com you can see a letter that one can assume was in te package. What does this all mean? We have yet to find out but I smell new shenanians brewing. Maybe Pete got inspired?

Dear Friends,
Dear Enemies,

I guess it’s time to break the fourth wall a little bit. We want to apologize to any of Pete’s fans who feel like we used or ‘betrayed’ them. These were never our intentions.

As Pete explained, the music industry has become increasingly difficult to penetrate, especially in the last few years. We’ve watched you guys post a lot of the bands that you’ve love and passionately plead for their case as well. And I think that further reinforces the point, that there are great bands out there that are flying under the radar, purely because there’s no bottle necking going on to concentrate them to a particular audience. We think as a result, the music industry has to transcend being just a “music” industry. I think it is evolving into a multimedia industry. That’s a big reason why we found it appealing, and necessary, to work with Pete. He understands that it is about the music, but it’s also about emotional investment, and entertainment.

We started our campaign in hopes of doing more than just dropping off a press kit to Pete as he passed by. Ian had a story to tell, and Ashbury had music that we wanted to touch people with. We thought it would be cool to go beyond the “webisode” or the music video, and create a story that people could not only read, but participate and become characters in. Ian, Jason, HateFilledBox… even Pete and his future counterpart are all characters that we hoped you would all get invested in, including Pete. The story didn’t completely resolve because in our opinions, there is so much to be told.

To us, this was like a television pilot, or an epic commercial. Honestly… we wanted Pete, even if for just a second, to think, “holy Shi….. what if a future version of myself really did this.” Just that trippy feeling of true immersion. It was so much fun for us to play along with everyone. There were a lot of speed bumps (like the imposter twitters) that we had to come up with solutions for at the last minute. Ultimately though, we have music and SO MANY IDEAS to share with the world, and we thought Decaydance was the perfect vehicle to that end.

We chose the songs Make a Scene and Figure Me Out to put on that final page because they were in context with the story and we weren’t sure that Pete or Alex would even play along. There was LOT of luck involved.

I know you asked me to communicate in private with you Pete, but honestly… I think everybody here deserves an explanation as to what our intentions were. We did this on our own, there was no label or any other company involved. We think Decaydance is the perfect place for us. I think Pete’s understanding of the music industry (and the fact that it’s a bands initiative and hard work coupled with creativity that gets them anyway) is exactly what we’ve been looking for as artists. We’ve seen a lot of positive feedback. Thank you so much for those of you who have give us support. For those of you who felt wronged by this, we apologize.

We also want to thank you, Pete for playing along. You didn’t have to give the final solution. You didn’t have to listen to the music, but you did, and this blog alone has been more than we could have ever asked for. I guess the ball has been thrown right back in your court. I’ve tweeted my email. I’m sure we have mutual friends that have a way of getting into contact with me. We would love nothing more than to be a part of what you’re doing.

Looks like the cat is out of the bag. One of our fellow citizens via Twitter confirmed that the band behind this ingenious viral marketing party is Ashbury. You can take a look on their MySpace page here. You can also find a video of Alex DeLeon singing with the band on their page. But does that mean Alex was involved? Maybe he is a guest on one of their songs?

Right before this was revealed, Pete posted that last blog entry and delivered the password to unlock a fake petewentz.com site, which is why I had found the fake header a few days ago. If you enter prosopagnosia on welcometothenewhate.com you are sent to the fake pete tumblr. There you can hear more songs from the band and some entries in the same form the letters were written. Pete also says that he was not involved and whether or not we care about the music or the marketing? Do you think they should be signed? Do you guys like the music?

I give major kudos to the band for pulling this off and getting people talking.

its interesting in the new age of music getting peoples attention and getting the industry to notice you is so much harder. i have been involved in a few “games” myself. they are fun and honestly i believe the person who solves “it” feels more ownership over the art and sometimes as though they have taken part in the art. i know that people think im involved in “welcome to the new hate”. im not, honestly but i played along. sometimes i like to see people games play out. i think they hav done a very successful campaign for a band that is unsigned. im gonna play out their final step for you. it will take you to a website that is designed to look like pete wentz.com- at the address: alliesandenemies.com it is not however and i did not write any of the words. i considered not leaking the final “password/prescription” but i think they have done a really good job with their viral content. in a world here people put out crappy content left and right. like i said i have nothing to do with them or their campaign but the question is do you like the music as much as the marketing?

ive recieved their last message. type: prosopagnosia - (which is a disorder where people cant recognize other people’s faces).where it says please medicate me. it ill unlock two songs and text (not written by me). know i happen to know the bands name and what not but i feel like its “fair” under the rules of the game to let it out.

my hats off to those who designed this campaign that went around the world and tricked both me and singer (not sure how tricked or in on it he was honestly).
